a chartreuse-green water flower opens to unveil the contours of its
pistil in amethyst rods. The virtuosity of the craftsman suggests
quivering sea currents swirling amidst a stunning backdrop
of marine flora. Notus, the south wind in the Greek mythology; seems
to have been imprisoned in this paperweight, which owes its amazing
depth to a brand new technique.

This pebble-like paperweight invites onlookers to plunge in to an
aquatic nebula fashioned by the magic of our master glassmakers.
A sprinkling of blue and white stars emerge on the surface. As if
bouyed by an undulating seabed composed of sapphire. Outremer
and navyrods, all individually positioned using tweezers. Like the
Cyclades themselves. This object offers a perpetual constellation
to admire, from the infinite blue of the Aegean Sea to the pure
whiteness of the islands’ cliff-top churches.

The Sea Urchin paperweight imagined by Claire Le Sage is the latest demonstration of the artist skill of the Saint-Louis glassworkers. Using the "bundles" of rods technique, the artisans have created shiny, silky swirls from canes of purple and flannel crystal and white enamel. Recalling the bar shell of the Sea Urchin, the fragile trophy of the sea in subtle shades of crimson, this paperweight enhances the beauty of the colour to create a remarkable optical illusion. Matt-cut from clear crystal, the 14 rows of spines heighten the realism of this beautiful object.
