The tightrope walker moves with grace, perched on his wheel inside the crystal. A minuscule black thread rounded using a blowtorch stretches from one side to the other to support the acrobat. The hot crystal fuses the figure balancing on his wheel with his balancing pole, creating an object composed of microscopic black rods individually positioned by the master glassmaker. The extreme agility of this gesture conveys a dynamic, infinitely poetic spectacle.

Inspired by Buddhist meditation, the Saint-Louis mandala unites the curves of the crystal ball with the points of the star. Multicoloured rods individually placed with tweezers using the ancient millefiori technique form this highly complex geometric motif for which the master glassmakers have no template to work from. Their dexterity is their only ally in creating this calming star whose white, blue and orange rods are embellished with subtle white, green and red centres, and on which flowers blossom from richly textured circles.

For 2014, the Chinese year of the horse, the crystal works pay tribute to one of Asia’s most popular animals. A captivating sulphide paperweight is thus dedicated to the flying destrier of Chinese mythology, capable of leading horsemen into the realms of the immortal. Sculpted in white ceramic, the horse medallion appears to fly, skillfully placed in virtually cold crystal before being meticulously harnessed with tripled spheres in mass coloured light blue, white enamel and dark blue.
