This paperweight showcases the famous wave by Hokusai, reinterpreted in three dimensions by the layering of four millefiori. Crafted from around a hundred sugar drops patiently assembled by hand, they offer a subtle blend of blues, blacks and whites to evoke the mysterious and fascinating depths of the sea. The blue, in particular, recalls the Prussian blue that Hokusai used in his original woodblock print. This colour was extremely innovative at the time, as it had only just been imported to Japan from Europe.
The movement of the wave is depicted in two distinct phases: in the foreground, the wave emerges in a still-reasonable size while in the background, the wave unfurls in all its vigour, ready to plunge back into the turbulent sea. Visible from the front and the back, the wave reveals itself fully to us, deploying all its breadth and power.
Two slender boats appear amidst the swell, reminding us of the place of humans in the face of mighty nature. They are crafted from a rod of yellow crystal using a blowtorch.
The overall composition is set in a clear crystal cylinder, which is then enveloped in a calotte crafted from flannel grey crystal, white enamelled crystal and clear crystal. Combined with the paperweight’s circular shape, large concave pearls cut on the cylinder’s two surfaces reinforce the wave’s sense of movement and accompany the infinite rolling of the swell. The result is that although the paperweight remains motionless on its flat base, its decoration comes to life.

The horse, crafted from grey and white crystal rods using a blowtorch, takes centre stage at the heart of the composition. Driven by its indomitable energy, it rears, invincible and free, in a perfect balance between brute strength and infinite grace. Its hooves cut through the air as its mane dances in the wind. Haloed by an incandescent millefiori crafted from a multitude of sugar drops in shimmering tones of red, orange and yellow, the horse exudes power and energy.
The composition is set in a clear crystal cylinder, which is enclosed in a calotte composed of a layer of amethyst crystal followed by a layer of white enamelled crystal. The latter is then covered with a layer of clear crystal on which a white filigree is etched using shears. The paperweight is thus decorated with dancing, vibrant arabesques to echo the strength and energy of the fire horse showcased in its centre.
The overall composition is then covered with a thicker layer of clear crystal.
On the back, the paperweight is decorated with sandblasted arabesques that evoke flames full of life. These arabesques are hand-painted with 24-carat gold. When the paperweight is moved, the elements come to life and change depending on the angle.

A bouquet of white, purple and pink flowers is set in a translucent crystal ball with a deep dark blue base: a pure scene exuding great serenity. Beneath this ball is a flared cone decorated with filigree: very fine threads of white enamelled crystal intertwined within the clear crystal to represent the mesh of a butterfly net. Caught in it are two butterflies, one dark blue and the other bright green. They fly towards the crystal ball and its flowers. The butterfly net ends in a dark blue rim.

Two red-crowned crane figurines have been made using a blowtorch and encased in a ball of clear crystal. They are recognisable by their entirely white bodies, black necks and wingtip feathers, and bright red crowns.
They are depicted in motion with their wings spread, performing a courtship display and jumping joyfully.
Small flakes of white enamelled crystal have been added to the surface of the crystal ball to create a snowglobe effect.
A medallion made of white and light blue millefiori sugar drops sits at the foot of the cranes, recalling water and the blue sky of cold winter days.

In this paperweight, the snake appears to be a mischievous character from a colourful cartoon. It is dressed in two complementary hues: green and red. Its head is in pale green crystal, while its body is fashioned from a combination of red and blue millefiori sugar drops.
Vigilant and alert, the hypnotic creature is coiled atop a bed of green millefiori floating above a fascinating blue setting. The latter features a generous assortment of dark blue, light blue and white sugar drops. From its post, the snake watches what is happening on the other side of the crystal.
A circle cut into the top of the crystal ball creates a magnifying effect, allowing us to discreetly observe the snake and immerse ourselves in its shimmering world. When the paperweight is moved, the elements come to life and change depending on the angle.
The gold version of the paperweight is decorated with gold arabesques that appear to be in motion. They evoke vegetation teeming with life.
The arabesques are hand-painted with 24-carat gold.

The Blue Rose Window is depicted through a meticulous millefiori motif of a multitude of blue candies, interspersed with pink and green. Very thin black enamel rods give a clear structure to the rose window design.
The stained glass is visible from both sides of the paperweight: it can be admired from the rounded side, as well as the flat side for even greater immersion in its details.
